FILMMAKER INTERVIEW

What do you want the audience to take away from the film?

The emotion of one self in adding Edgar Alan Poe’s excerpt of the Pit and the Pendulum to tie the feeling of anxiety, suffering, and agony in such a short piece. A story that came to mind while bored in English class, so I wrote with my friend LIlly’s help. It changed in so many ways through the process of making this movie, it turned into a completely different story entirely with a happy ending.

Which scene did you have an absolute blast filming and why?

The scene I had the most fun with was when Emily (the Doctor/Sawbones) ran out of the room, because the hallway was very small, so she kind of pushed me out of the way and knocked the camera out of my hand!

Why are opportunities like Film Prize Junior important to students like you?

I think it’s great to give young film makers or entrepreneurs a good chance to pursue their dreams.

What obstacles challenged you and your crew the most when completing this film? What did you learn from making this short film?

I think time management is the hardest thing for me when it comes to projects like these. The biggest obstacle for me with this movie was myself, honestly. However, I feel like it could have turned out better if I had more time, resources and money to spend on it.

What advice would you give to future participants in Film Prize Junior?

I would tell them to stay strong, be confident in themselves, work hard, and cooperate with their surroundings (be flexible.) Have the courage to submit, many times I hesitated to enter due to self doubt.
