FILMMAKER INTERVIEW

What do you want the audience to take away from the film?

I want the audience not only to take away the theme of how every action has consequences but also to recognize corruption can come from any person in a position of power and band together to help bring rightful cases to justice. No matter the position one is found in, it’s better to help point out those who use the system that’s meant to protect us to benefit themselves and keep them away from that power.

Which scene did you have an absolute blast filming and why?

Looking back, a scene I had an absolute blast filming would be the classroom/bedroom scene, this is due to how the rooms for both scenes were actually only one room. As we set up the classroom to fit our scene, we would chat and laugh in between shots which was just fun to interact with your crew members and actors.

Why are opportunities like Film Prize Junior important to students like you?

The opportunities like Film Prize Junior are important to student like me because they grant kids a chance to experience film making with their class or picked partners. The bond between your crew and actors when making a film are what really solidifies how much you want to go into film, on top of that, seeing your vision come to life is something not may are able to get. The chance of even getting a scholarship I feel is an extra bonus as well as a helpful chance for students who don’t have much funds to get into collages to expand on their dream career.

What obstacles challenged you and your crew the most when completing this film? What did you learn from making this short film?

Obstacles that challenged my crew and I the most was trying to get all our shots the way I pictured them on the time crunch we had as well as the days schedules couldn’t compile with who we needed to work with. Though we still pushed through and found a way to still get all the shots and audio done for all scenes. What I learned from making this short film is that communication and working with what you have is the best tools in film, they determine what you can shot and to plan out with your crew to keep production going.

What advice would you give to future participants in Film Prize Junior?

Advice I would give to future participants in Film Prize Junior is to have fun, but I’m sure this has been told plenty of times. Enjoying what your making and bonding with your crew is a changing experience I’d wish for any film maker, film making is telling a story and turning it into a vision that has helpful elements that connect with your audience. I feel there’s always a sour taste in a film’s crew when they don’t get along or least understand each other, that bond from having fun I believe is equally important as the film.
