FILMMAKER INTERVIEW

What do you want the audience to take away from the film?

I want the audience to conceptualize the concept of inevitability. There are some aspects of life that are going to happen that no one can change. Among those aspects is Death. This film explores these fears and also attempts to show the troubles of conflict within a group. The main character attempts to show innocence while other characters within the film show arrogance, bullying and egotism which ultimately leads to their demise.

Which scene did you have an absolute blast filming and why?

My favorite scene to record was toward the end of the film where the leader of the group “Gabriel” turns around to reassure Leo and Yael that the sound is nothing to worry about. In that moment, a hand appears behind Gabriel symbolizing his death. This shot was aesthetically pleasing and the whole crew was proud of the shot when reviewed.

Why are opportunities like Film Prize Junior important to students like you?

Opportunities like the one provided by Film Prize Junior are important to students like me as they provide an outlet to show the quality and skill we have learned over the years. Film Prize Junior allows students to be recognized for their works.

What obstacles challenged you and your crew the most when completing this film? What did you learn from making this short film?

The main obstacle when completing this film was acting. Most of our actors struggled in the beginning keeping a strait face throughout the film. There was many shots that had to be recorded a multitude of times. Making this short film taught me to be patience and give reassurance to the cast when recording. The morale of the crew is among the most important aspects to keep.

What advice would you give to future participants in Film Prize Junior?

Advice I would give to future participants is to be patient with your crew. Good relations make great products. It is especially important if you need to reshoot video later on. If the crew hates you, they might be hesitant to agree to another shooting date.
