FILMMAKER INTERVIEW

Which scene did you have an absolute blast filming and why?

I had a blast filming the scene where Cassius, one of our student actors, was the main character, and I was the alter ego. During this scene I grabbed him and pushed him into the closet. It was a scene that really made us laugh and have a good time.

Why are opportunities like Film Prize Junior important to students like you?

These opportunities are important for us, young kids, to have a voice and to be able to share stories, either from our imagination, or real stories that we’ve lived. For example, I am not the best at verbal story-telling, so this way of narrating my stories, is ideal for many of us.

What obstacles challenged you and your crew the most when completing this film? What did you learn from making this short film?

The obstacles that challenged us the most, were finding the time to complete this film because coordinating a time where everyone could meet, was very difficult. I felt that I had to modify my schedule a lot, and it was a bit stressful. This took away from the joy of film, and became, for me as a high school senior with dual-credit classes and internships, more of a task, than anything.

I learned to work with others to create a project. Teamwork really enhances the quality of the project because it brings in different perspectives, and therefore, more value to the viewers.

What advice would you give to future participants in Film Prize Junior?

I would advice you to tell a story that you are passionate about, something that is meaningful to you and is important to share to the public. The biggest thing I’d recommend is to have fun.
