Sixth grade students at Amy Biehl Community School embark on a journey of creating their own flags in new glory!

FILMMAKER INTERVIEW

What do you want the audience to take away from the film?

This media project was made after a history lesson on the U.S. flag. We learned where it came from and who it represented. The students then made a book and a media project of them making their own flags that represented them and did not exclude anyone. The students also considered people who lived in the area like Amy Biehl and the Japanese-Americans in the internment camp and made sure to include their voices.

Which scene did you have an absolute blast filming and why?

Going outside to the garden with all the flags together.

Why are opportunities like Film Prize Junior important to students like you?

It really brings people together.

What obstacles challenged you and your crew the most when completing this film? What did you learn from making this short film?

It would be fun to open it up to fourth graders next year. I think it would be fun to create a book on film making for kids. Not having enough time in school time to work.

What advice would you give to future participants in Film Prize Junior?

Think about the stories you want to tell.
