FILMMAKER INTERVIEW

What do you want the audience to take away from the film?

I made “Sleep” for the audience to be unsettled in this film, it is a horror film. I want them to take way that you could also just use sound to tell a story, with just some lights a camera and a little action.

Which scene did you have an absolute blast filming and why?

The scene I had an amazing time filming was the refrigerator scene because it was the first shoot of the short movie and I finally got to experience what it felt like to be a Director and for my friends to be my crew. The whole short film was an amazing experience without Film Prize I don’t think we would have never gotten to do this. Thank you for my crew, my sponsors and film prize.

Why are opportunities like Film Prize Junior important to students like you?

The opportunities like Film Prize Jr are important to express students that maybe don’t get heard or don’t get seen. Its an amazing way to let students and kids be creative and be putting themselves out to the world that is much larger then them.

What obstacles challenged you and your crew the most when completing this film? What did you learn from making this short film?

The obstacles that challenged my crew and I when completing this film was scheduling, it was a huge challenged to over come because it was out of our hands but we just needed to plan more ahead and be more flexible to the better of our ability and work together more as a team. I learned a lot from completing this short film for example: trying to time manage everything and see when everyone would be available to film cause as a director it would be your responsibility. Another example would be everyone is looking to your approval as a director like making easy decisions and hard ones.

What advice would you give to future participants in Film Prize Junior?

The advice i would give to future participants is to work as a team and if your are the director a lot of the responsibility and how you get your team together would be on you and how you would get your film in order would fall on you. Its so much weight but in the end it pays off seeing your big idea on the big screen.
