FILMMAKER INTERVIEW

What do you want the audience to take away from the film?

I wanted to create a sense of uneasiness. A sense of something being off. I want audiences to be able to question things because I think questioning things is healthy.

Which scene did you have an absolute blast filming and why?

The detective scene is my favorite because we drove out to Tijeras and pulled off to the side of the road to film that. We had to do our best to not fall in a ditch while doing it. It was a blast getting to record off campus. This is the last time I’ll ever be able to film this specific way with these specific people, so it’s something I’ll cherish.

Why are opportunities like Film Prize Junior important to students like you?

This creates a way for students to express themselves. Being able to work alongside each other and express our creativity and show camaraderie over it as well.

What obstacles challenged you and your crew the most when completing this film? What did you learn from making this short film?

We had to do a last minute story overhaul in pre-production which threw us off. No one liked the idea and it’s hard to get everyone on board when no one feels the passion. There were times where it felt like there were too many voices to trying to be heard, but we found that being happy with what you got and avoiding the shoulda woulda couldas helped a ton too.

What advice would you give to future participants in Film Prize Junior?

Just go for it. No idea is too weird or out there. If you think of something, don’t hold back. Make it.
