FILMMAKER INTERVIEW

What do you want the audience to take away from the film?

I want the audience to learn about the positive aspects of forest fires. Forest fires are a prominent occurrence within our forests as of now and will continue to be as time goes on. Learning how to adapt to forest fires and utilize them to our advantage is the only way we will be able to aid our forests.

Which scene did you have an absolute blast filming and why?

I had fun filming the B-roll for this film because I had the opportunity to go out into forest fire burn scars and experience the forest to its most authentic form. I was able to go out into nature and capture it through a lens so others could enjoy the beauty too.

Why are opportunities like Film Prize Junior important to students like you?

Opportunities like Film Prize Junior are important to students like me because I am from a small town with very limited opportunities. Having access to opportunities like Film Prize Junior allows me to share my talents and interests to a great extent. I am able to share my creativity with people outside of my town which will allow me more connections and opportunities in the future.

What obstacles challenged you and your crew the most when completing this film? What did you learn from making this short film?

Some obstacles my crew and I faced during the filming process of this film was organizing time to capture events and certain places. Multiple scenes from different areas went into making this film. Although it was challenging, the crew was determined to capture more than one place. We had to organize multiple meetings to go out to certain forest locations and we had to set up multiple interviews with many people. This aspect of the production process was challenging, but it is was made the film so important to me and my crew.

What advice would you give to future participants in Film Prize Junior?

Some advice I would give to future Film Prize Junior participants would be to put as much effort into the process as possible. It is vital to proceed with every production process with care and knowledge. The process itself can be a learning experience, and it is important to have a passion for everything that is happening within the process.
