FILMMAKER INTERVIEW

What do you want the audience to take away from the film?

Jacob W.: To tell a story—to inspire people that they can also make movies.

Which scene did you have an absolute blast filming and why?

Jesus M.G.: The bathroom scene where I get to use creepy claws to touch Jay’s shoulder during the first time we see the demon.

Why are opportunities like Film Prize Junior important to students like you?

Jacob W.: Because you never know when you could ever do this event again. Making movies is my dream and other people have the same dream. Film Prize Junior could help you later on in life.

What obstacles challenged you and your crew the most when completing this film? What did you learn from making this short film?

Santiago S.: Trying not to laugh during our scenes like the bathroom scene. Jason, our director, helped me try not to laugh.
Jesus M.G.: Wearing the suit, of course! And keeping the claws on!
Carol Aragon Baca (educator): Figuring out the right props to use.
Tiffany Terry (teacher sponsor/producer): Scheduling across the film crew and cast was a little challenging, but it all worked out. It was not easy to shuffle things for props, costumes, etc. together at the last minute!

What advice would you give to future participants in Film Prize Junior?

Be on your best behavior and have fun! –Jesus M.G.
Calm down–you’ve got this! Just take it a step at a time. –Jacob W.
Take it slow. Don’t give yourself a hard time. –Sophia F.
