FILMMAKER INTERVIEW

What do you want the audience to take away from the film?

Our goal in sharing our film with this festival is to show that we as middle school students have ideas and creativity enough to create a film. We have worked hard and have collectively contributed our time to create this story.

Which scene did you have an absolute blast filming and why?

A scene that our crew had a blast filming was specifically when the thief was drunk and started to toy with his watch. This scene had a lot of creativity and actually took some thinking on how this scene was going to go.

Why are opportunities like Film Prize Junior important to students like you?

Opportunities like Film Prize Junior are important to students today because they help us as students learn new skills, talents, career traits, and lessons. They also help show what is actually possible by just students working together and having fun.

What obstacles challenged you and your crew the most when completing this film? What did you learn from making this short film?

During our filming, there were at least three things that challenged our crew. The first was attendance because we did not know when some students were going to be available. The second was editing, as we had to learn how to use certain tools. Lastly, time was an issue because we only had so many class hours to complete this film. From this film we learned that not everything goes as planned. Sometimes you need to make adjustments for a certain situation. This helped us learn responsibility and skills that we have never even experienced before.

What advice would you give to future participants in Film Prize Junior?

For future participants, we would encourage anyone to create a film because it is an amazing opportunity and helps you connect with other people in the film industry. This really helped us as students learn about media and film industry skills, using our creativity, and having fun.
