FILMMAKER INTERVIEW

What do you want the audience to take away from the film?

We would like the audience to experience the emotions that our characters feel. This is a tale full of a wide arrange of feelings. This includes our protagonist as he is faced with challenges beyond his comprehension and his internal turmoil as he faces his past actions head on.

Which scene did you have an absolute blast filming and why?

A scene we personally enjoyed filming were the flashback scenes. It sparked a lot of creativity, and was enjoyable to create and produce. These opportunities allowed us to collaberate with family and friends, and we met new people and shared the same goals.

Why are opportunities like Film Prize Junior important to students like you?

I would say that opportunities like Film Prize Junior are important to students in today’s society as it grants students opportunities to create movies in their imagination, gain experience in digital media, and bond over a shared passion of moviemaking. These opportunties also allow you to share your story beyond the restrictions of your own school, and reach new places and grants students a chance to meet new people.

What obstacles challenged you and your crew the most when completing this film? What did you learn from making this short film?

The obstacles we faced the most were that we had to reshoot a lot of our scenes, and finding the time to reshoot our scenes that fit each of our schedules. For example, when filming at night we needed a school employee to take time out of their free time to accompany us. We also needed a lot of retakes as either the lighting was poor, or the acting didn’t meet a certain expectation.
We learned a lot about planning ahead, and communicating our thoughts and visions with each other before filming and as we created this film.

What advice would you give to future participants in Film Prize Junior?

My advice would be: Always pre-plan, plan, and revisit your plan as you work out what you want done and how you are going to do it. Sketch it out so other people can share your vision of a film, and be patient with your film crew. Film Prize Junior provides great tools to learn how to create scripts, engineer films, and good tips on editing your film. You have someone to advise you on how to plan your film, and can help you along the way.
