FILMMAKER INTERVIEW

What do you want the audience to take away from the film?

I would really like the audience to take away from my film just how precious our time is and how fast it flies by, as well as understanding how important it is to surround yourself with good people.

Which scene did you have an absolute blast filming and why?

I loved filming the scene at the park because I got to meet up with the actors outside of school and film them in a different environment. This allowed me to get some unique shots that I would not have been able to get at school. It also was just a fun scene, as I was filming three friends getting to hang out at the park.

Why are opportunities like Film Prize Junior important to students like you?

For a few years now, I have known that I wanted to be a movie director when I grow up. Things like my film class this year and Film Prize Junior are very important to me and other students similar to myself because these experiences have helped me to really grow and learn about directing, using cameras, writing scripts, editing, and more, all of which are important skills to have in the movie industry. This experience has also helped me get my foot in the door of the next steps of my life after highschool and college.

What obstacles challenged you and your crew the most when completing this film? What did you learn from making this short film?

One obstacle I had while filming was the timeline of everything, because I didn’t start until very late. I also had some problems finding people who wanted to act in my film, and then setting up times where everyone could get together and film. I learned that not everything runs as smoothly in real life as it does in your head, but that if you keep working to get things done, you can make it happen.

What advice would you give to future participants in Film Prize Junior?

One piece of advice I would give to future participants in Film Prize Junior is to start as early as you can, because things take longer than expected. Also, when you are filming, make sure to get plenty of shots for coverage. Another important thing is to get some form of communication with your actors so that you can set up times to film, update them, etc.
