FILMMAKER INTERVIEW

What do you want the audience to take away from the film?

Be yourself. Any other version of you is alien. It really doesn’t matter who people want you to be. Just be you. You are awesome in offbrands!

Which scene did you have an absolute blast filming and why?

The burrito scene was the best because we got to eat the burritoes! The alien scene was awful because we couldn’t breathe in the masks we made! The hair cut scene was so funny because everyone in the barber shop was staring out the window at us!

Why are opportunities like Film Prize Junior important to students like you?

This was the most fun way every to learn new skills, like using Adobe Premiere to edit, without having to do the same old work in school. It also gave us a chance to check out the film department at UNM Taos.

What obstacles challenged you and your crew the most when completing this film? What did you learn from making this short film?

We could not control the background noise and and then the actors couldn’t be heard. We learned that even though we wanted to use our own cameras, we would have done better to use the cameras and mic that the school has to use. Also, we learned that even though we had a problem with our footage and sound, we managed to get the story told with some creative editing choices. We also learned that Amos can play the guitar a lot better than he admits!

What advice would you give to future participants in Film Prize Junior?

Watch out for background noise – it can be deadly! Find a way to film at Mary Janes Food Cart so you can eat some food!
