FILMMAKER INTERVIEW

What do you want the audience to take away from the film?

Muse is a short film about finding inspiration, even in the smallest things. Our main goal in sharing this film is to make people laugh! There is plenty of sadness in the world, and to make something which brightens people’s day is always important. We also wanted to make a film dedicated to art, and to people, because people are incredible, and incredibly cool!

Which scene did you have an absolute blast filming and why?

Making this film was incredibly fun, however, there were definitely a couple of scenes that we particularly enjoyed filming. Specifically the scenes with the Cool Girl, as it was our first day filming, so excitement was high. We had a blast coming up with funny things the characters could do in the daydreaming montage The Kid has about the Cool Girl, and we had a lot of experimentation with the camera and character choices which was awesome.

Why are opportunities like Film Prize Junior important to students like you?

Opportunities like Film Prize Junior are incredibly important to students like us for a number of reasons. In participating in this festival students have the opportunity to do something they really enjoy, and to gain recognition and learn new things from their experiences. It can especially jumpstart a passion in a student and help them start a career in this industry.

What obstacles challenged you and your crew the most when completing this film? What did you learn from making this short film?

One of the main things we struggled with when completing this film was finding a day to shoot that would work for everyone’s schedule, and had the right weather/time of day for the scenes. We also had some fairly large continuity errors that we didn’t discover until after we had shot everything and didn’t have enough time to fix, but those were the only large bumps in our process other than lighting which we fixed in editing. From making this short film we learned a lot about how much work actually goes into making a film. We learned time management, and how to do all of the little things you’d never think would come up in making something like this.

What advice would you give to future participants in Film Prize Junior?

The biggest advice we would give to future participants in Film Prize Junior would be to have fun! It’s important to get things done, but it’s also important not to let stress get to you too much when you work on things. Make sure you are very organized, and plan things out in advance so you know what you’re going into.
