FILMMAKER INTERVIEW

What do you want the audience to take away from the film?

Our goal in submitting our film to your festival is to entertain and connect with the audience. We want to tell a compelling story that resonates with people and sparks conversations. By participating in your event, we hope to share our love for filmmaking and maybe even get some recognition for our work. We’re excited about the opportunity to showcase our film and engage with fellow filmmakers and movie enthusiasts.

Which scene did you have an absolute blast filming and why?

Our favorite scene to record was our final scene because it is where we wrapped up the whole story and we truly got our adrenaline pumping. It was fun to act and laugh after we had recorded it. At night when the cold hit us and when Ryan fell in the snow at the end, he was freezing for a while.

Why are opportunities like Film Prize Junior important to students like you?

Film Prize Junior and similar opportunities are important for students today because they offer a platform for young filmmakers to showcase their talent, gain practical experience, and receive valuable feedback from industry professionals. These events foster confidence, encourage collaboration, and help students develop essential skills while inspiring creativity and empowering the next generation of storytellers.

What obstacles challenged you and your crew the most when completing this film? What did you learn from making this short film?

We decided that it would be interesting to film our project in the snow, so when we took on that challenge, we didn’t think about needing to record more later on. All the footage we acquired was from one day of filming, as the snow was gone when we found we needed to record again. We did go record a couple of extra clips later on but had to film them all upward towards the sky so that the audience would not see the ground.
Making this short film taught us the importance of teamwork, problem-solving, and learning to adapt. We gained valuable experience in all aspects of filmmaking, from planning to editing, and grew both as filmmakers and individuals through the process.

What advice would you give to future participants in Film Prize Junior?

For future participants in Film Prize Junior, my advice is to stay true to your vision, plan meticulously, embrace collaboration, take creative risks, edit ruthlessly, seek feedback, and above all, have fun throughout the filmmaking process.
